4 'whiskeys' sampled - in a blind tasting format - to discover some were actually blends. It was decided not to waste our time with the blends again!!!
The Tyrconnell
15yrs - 46%

A single malt that scored the 2nd best of the night with an average of 79. Some of the comments......
light, easy, firefly (????) and apple with a whack of cherry, like a delicate breast to hold in ones hand, sweet, died after the initial taste, weak, could have ben Australian it was so bad, harsh, fruity, wanting.
A lot of the table would buy it and continued to say that it lost everything with water. Titilating, sharp, insipid, the more you smell it the less charecter it has, undertones of citrus

Ballantines
17yrs - 43%

Voted the best whiskey of 2010!!!! Despite this a lot of people were suspicious that it was a blend even when tasted blind and came 3rd that night with an average of 75. Comments included.....
seductive, harsh and not much to it, I like it!!!! One fine gent said it tasted like something from the Kingdom of Ringsend.
Plombiferous, harsh said by no less than 10 tasters, not a sipping whiskey and that it should be thrown back and then wait for the kick. Honey, did not enjoy this at all, repulsive, would only drink it if it was given free, while another commented they would not drink it if they were paid.
The final commetnof the night from a certain gent was  that he hoped it would be like his next wife - full of Eastern promise!!!!

This one got the lowest of the night with an average of 72 so will let the comments speak for themselves......
too long in the tooth; like taking home a 2qyear old and waking up to find its a 35year old mum of 3; best of the night; not something i would buy; rough as a jockeys bollocks;really enjoyed it;delicious;fruity; strutting and quite shocking; like a d**do bouncing on the floor and finally "a Que Pasa cougar mess"

Islay Mist

Whether it was because it was the last of the night or that its merits stood it well, this got the best score of the night with an average of 86
lingered and enjoyed it; most charecter of the night; citrusy; efeminate, absolutely luscious; well put together and elegant; I love it!!!
Apparently it improved with water, was well balanced but lacked charisma but all in all a well balanced well finished whiskey.
